British Youth Nationals ready to spring into action

There are just six weeks to wait until the British Youth Nationals returns for 2013. With the opportunity for riders to test their skills against the best their age group has to offer and learn from some of the best in the business too, it’s an opportunity not to be missed.

The first rounds, held on the fourth and fifth of May at Wooley Grange, will pack a punch with seven races for most classes, and a single day, four race meeting for under 23s. And it is not just racing, but learning too.

“We felt that packing as much as possible into the weekend was the key,” explains RHL’s Gareth Hockey.

“Riders want to race as much as possible and we’re giving them that opportunity! Alongside that, we’re massively proud of the RHL Academy and what it can bring to a burgeoning career.”

The brand new under 23 class has been tailored to ease the transition to series like the Maxxis British Championship. With single day events that mirror the Maxxis format, as well as making an easier proposition to fit around jobs or studying, it’s a big opportunity to hone skills before stepping up.

“We were made aware that there was a gap in the nationals last year, and that gap was up to age 23,” says Hockey. “We’ve brought that class in and we want to make it successful, because it’s a key time in the career of a young rider – it could be make or break at that stage and it’s important to be ready before they make the jump up.”

Motocross’ family atmosphere will return in 2013, with plenty of off track entertainment for the families and friends the young racers bring with them. A barbecue, or something from the bar, is the perfect complement to the racing.

“RHL have a lot of experience with this sort of competition,” adds Hockey. “Family ties are important to the riders and they’re important to us. None of the competitors would be here without support, and we’re really excited to provide for the support too.”

Spring is always an exciting time…
